More about Dr. Blake:

My work with animals started over 20 years ago as a farm animals and equine surgeon in my native Brazil, and has encompassed roles in research, teaching, leadership and general vet practice. I have been involved in several research projects, in areas as diverse as regenerative medicine using stem cells, to biomechanical analysis of both horse and rider during sporting endeavours with the aim of improving welfare. Currently, I am Head of Research and Knowledge Exchange at the School of Animal, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, at Anglia Ruskin University, UK. I am also an associate professor with a focus on Dissertation modules, Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Equine Biomechanics and Lameness Assessment. My work with animals has always focused on promoting their welfare and I have lead several outreach, research and knowledge exchange projects within this area. Additionally, I have undertaken multiple leadership roles throughout my career, including Dean of Outreach; Vice-Dean of the Veterinary School and Director of a Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I am an experienced academic, senior manager and researcher, with a passion for enhancing animal welfare through industry informed, real-world research coupled with effective dissemination.
