Come join us on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 7:00 pm (ET) to learn about the research coming out of the Horse-Human Interaction Lab at Texas Tech University! With us will be Christine Rudd, a PhD candidate in the lab, who will talk about her research into EAS volunteers and the relationship between volunteer education, session safety, and horse welfare. She’ll also be giving us a sneak peek at some of her research investigating EAS horses’ experiences in some common activities and their implications for future research and equine wellbeing in session.
About Christine Rudd, MSc, PATH, Intl. Advanced TRI, CTRI, ESMHL
Christine (Chrissy) Rudd is a PhD Candidate at Texas Tech University with a research interest in equine wellbeing in horse-human interactions, specifically within the context of Equine-Assisted Services. She is also the Chair of the PATH, Intl. Equine Welfare Committee and was instrumental in updating their equine welfare standards to align with current scientific evidence for 2023. She received her undergraduate degree from Averett University in Equestrian Studies and (human) Communication Studies, then received her Master’s degree in Equine Science from Aberystwyth University. She has 10+ years of professional background in training event horses and riders, working ranch horses, and equestrian tourism before transitioning over to the world of Equine-Assisted Services where she found her heart’s calling. Chrissy is an advocate for horse sports and incorporating horses for therapeutic benefit, but she believes that every sector of the horse industry can and should improve their practices to be more ethical, responsible, and prioritize the wellbeing of the horse.
