Witness the horse–human connection through the lens of real-time neuroscience.

What if we could observe—in real time—how the brain and body respond as horses and humans move, learn, and interact?

For the Second Annual HHRF Horse Fair, leading researchers in wearable neuroscience and physiological measurement will bring their technology out of the laboratory and into the barn.

Participants will experience live demonstrations and presentations featuring:

• Ambulatory electroencephalography (EEG) to record electrical brain activity during movement and interaction
• Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to examine changes in blood oxygenation associated with brain activity
• Heart-rate variability (HRV) monitoring to explore changes in autonomic nervous system function

These technologies are allowing researchers to investigate questions that, until recently, could be studied only under highly controlled laboratory conditions. This is a rare opportunity to see the equipment in use with horses and humans—and to watch real-time information emerge as movement, behavior, physiology, communication, and interaction unfold.

This is not a conventional lecture or technology exhibit. Participants will meet the researchers, observe live demonstrations, examine the information being collected, and ask questions about what these measurements can—and cannot—tell us about the horse–human relationship.

We have long observed changes in behavior. Now we are beginning to see what the nervous system is doing beneath them.

An Intimate, Hands-On Experience

Attendance is intentionally limited so participants have meaningful access to the researchers, horses, technology, and conversations. You will not simply hear about this work. You will have the opportunity to stand beside it as it happens.

First presentation: 9:30 a.m.
Special closing: 3:30 p.m.

Tickets include lunch and snacks. Transportation is the responsibility of each attendee.
