Equine-Assisted Services in Iceland: A Fulbright Journey

Partnering with horses for therapeutic purposes is a relatively new but rapidly developing field in Iceland. Through a Fulbright Scholar award, Dr. Erika Berg had the opportunity to collaborate with educators, students, and practitioners across the country who are advancing the field of equine assisted services (EAS). In this webinar on Wedensday, December 2, 2026 at 7:00PM EST), she will highlight the progress made by Iceland's leaders in the field, discuss current collaborations, and explore future initiatives supporting the continued growth of EAS in Iceland.

Erika Berg, PhD is an Associate Professor at North Dakota State University and the Director of Bison Strides Equine Assisted Services (EAS) Program, a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center at NDSU. She has been involved in the EAS field for over 30 years, is a PATH Intl. Advanced Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. Erika teaches coursework in EAS, and mentors undergraduates interested in horse and human interaction research, as well as those pursuing instructor certification. In June of 2026 she returned from a 5 ½ month Fulbright Scholar award at Hólar University (now University of Iceland – Hólar) in northern Iceland and cannot wait to return.
